OFF-ROAD
IN THE HIGH SUSA & CHISON VALLEYS
The old military roads which wind through the valleys, plateaus, villages and high alpine pastures of this part of Italy, are a favourite location for off-road motorcyclists and 4X4 vehicles along with hikers and cyclists.
In all there are approximately 140 kms of off-road routes linking the Susa and Chisone valleys via the area’s best-known high-altitude unpaved roads.

Off-Road Information
The former military roads in this area of Italy offer some of the best off-road riding and driving in the Alps.
The most famous, the Strada dell’Assietta (Assietta road) reaches an altitude of 2,550 m. at the Testa dell’Assietta (head or top of the Assietta). It is here that the battle of Assietta took place in 1747.
Along this and other routes, you can see the fortified military remains and even one or two World War II gun emplacements.
Motorised vehicles are welcomed except on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 to 17:00 in the months of July and August and at any other posted times. Always check.
The maximum speed limit of 30km/h is in force. You will be sharing the road with hikers and cyclists.
