Accessible Ski

Sciabile is an ambitious project, started in 2003 which aims to enable people with various types of disabilities to participate in skiing and snowboarding in Sauze d’Oulx.

The project supplies specialised ski instructors who are trained in new teaching techniques for people with disabilities, not only physical but also cognitive and sensory. In addition the instructors study new techniques and develop their own to enable people to enjoy winter sports.

Sciabile Onlus

In recent years more than 800 students, from Italy and abroad, have taken part in Sciable courses with more than 7600 hours of lessons conducted by teachers. In the 2014-2015 season Sciable carried out about 800 hours of classes.

Disabilities catered for by Sciabile:

Autistic spectrum disorders (autism, Asperger’s, Rett)
Genetic diseases (Down, Prader Willi, Mowat Wilson, Fragile X, Williams)
Sensory disorders (blind, visually impaired, hearing impaired)
Motor disorders (spinal injuries, brain injuries)
Physical disabilities (many different types)
The work of Sciabile was featured in the Italian Vanity Fair.

Sciable Onlus is a non-profit organization that raises funds to develop and further improve this project, enabling a growing number of disabled people to participate. Continuing to provide this important service helps improve the quality of life of children and adults with disabilities and provides an incentive to help them enjoy winter sports for free The project invests in the training of teachers and new technologies and equipment that are constantly changing.
